Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. ~Proverbs 22:6

March 2014 Newsletter

HAPPY SPRING….well, almost!  I remember my mom always said, “In like a lion and out like a lamb”.  I’m counting on it!

Through this winter, I have been reading “The Long Winter” with my children, and I think of our long winter, the endless shoveling, the cancelled activities.  I cannot help but be thankful for the much-needed family time, time to enjoy a roaring fire and play games or just “be”.

I know spring is close as I watch a bird start building her nest in the wreath on our door.  Every year, my kids survey the nest for eggs and anxiously await hatching.  As the trees start to bud and the days get longer, this winter will surely be remembered for years to come. Remember the blizzard of 1978?

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;  his mercies never come to an end;  they are new every morning;  great is your faithfulness.”  Lamentations 3:22-23

Scheherazade, Legend of the Arabian Nights

Tantalize your mind and senses with the tales, sounds, smells and tastes of Persia.  Living Books Theater’s middle school class of  over 35 homeschooled students will be performing Scheherazade, Legend of the Arabian Nights this coming March 28-29.

Magic, mystery, revenge and comedy mix together to produce this colorful legend of the greatest storyteller of the ancient Arabian world. Scheherazade is called upon to use her tale-spinning talents to save her people from certain destruction. Betrayed by his betrothed, the hot-tempered King Raynah decides to punish all the women in his kingdom. Armed only with her wit, a few colorful friends and just a smattering of magic, Scheherazade recites her stories for the king himself. As she paints the pictures of far off lands full of adventure and intrigue, King Raynah finds himself being drawn into the story in more ways than one.  Will Scheherazade be able to save her people?  Find out and watch the many colorful characters navigate lessons of love, forgiveness, and rediscovered joy!

As a special bonus, the audience will be treated to complementary samples of exotic Persian foods during an intermission  “bazaar” and hear about the statewide and overseas ministries of International Aid in Spring Lake.
